  I recently had a knee reconstruction at the Mater Private Hospital and was extremely nervous about the whole procedure. Upon arrival, I was greeted by happy and friendly staff and throughout my overnight stay had an enjoyable experience feeling as though the staff truly cared about my health and well being. I encountered over 20 staff members from receptionists, surgeons, nurses, volunteers, anesthetists, pharmacy consultants, physiotherapist 's etc. and every single person I encountered greeted me with a smile and made me feel completely at home and comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. I asked a lot of questions throughout my stay and the staff were happy to answer everything and anything open and honestly. On reflection of my visit, I was overwhelmed with kindness and would recommend this hospital hands down to not only my closest family and friends but to anyone else who needs their services. The people who work there make it feel like a home away from home. Thank you!

  From the room service people to the cleaners I can not fault anyone , for me this experience has been made easier by nursing team and my amazing surgeon Dr Tim Slack the nan who reinstated my faith in surgeons.

  Only small criticism would be a few more cable tv channels would be great especially if you don't watch sport.

  My Dr referred me there thinking I had burst appendix. Waited for ages, eventually taken to the triage room where there was only one other patient. There I waited for hours. I kicked up a stink saying that I would go elsewhere. Some bossy nurse told me there were more important cases than me. She eventually drew my blood leaving the worst bruising I've ever had from a blood test. Eventually an arrogant Dr arrived who stood at the curtain and didn't even come in to diagnose me. He told me to have a CAT so I did. He came back with results and said he couldn't find anything probably just a burst cyst near my ovary. Decided to leave, found four nurses and two Drs having a good old Goss behind reception. Disgusting considering my 4 HR wait! Still in pain I went elsewhere the next day and found out I actually had a bulging disc and pinched nerve, received proper care accordingly. Despite having top private health the whole misdiagnosis by Mater cost me over $800. Rude, slow and sloppy. I was in so much pain.

  Mother recently admitted to ed 8-10/10 pain. An hour wait for pain relief to be given, which was finally given by a student nurse - S8 medication administered with no supervising RN. Dried blood on the rails of the bed. Random wires hanging out of wall. Wanting to initially discharge my mother without ongoing plan to adress the primary issue. Very disappointed.
